1 Springfield XD-S 3.3 IWB Hybrid Holster

This holster for XD-S IWB holster shoppers brings a comfortable, flexible material that’s a combination of leather, polymer, and suede. The leather is the front face, while the polymer is a stiff invisible insert. The backing is suede.

This is an interesting take on holster construction, as most are made of either one material, or a single material with a different inner pocket material. To be sure, this does create an exceptionally comfortable fit, and provides the best of all worlds. The leather face will undoubtedly show wear over the course of time, but we suspect the polymer insert will help it keep shape and stay durable.

Springfield has included the basic customizable features carriers love. Adjustable retention with adjustment screws all around the holster mean that you can tune the draw by hand, and find the perfect fit for you. You may also adjust the angle and height that your holster rides at to find a great balance between comfort and concealability. While it is not adjustable on-the-fly, requiring a basic Phillip’s screw, we appreciate that it did not use a hex allen key or some proprietary system. Also, the many screws, while a bit cumbersome when making adjustments, does ensure great stability.

Springfield makes each holster separately for each model of gun, which is not uncommon, but is notable as not all manufacturers do. They also have their holsters available in left and right orientation.

Overall, it’s a pretty great holster, but we dislike one big thing about it: the lack of a click. All the adjustable tension in the world just isn’t as satisfying as hearing your XD-S click into place. While it is a solid holster, this omission is a greatly-missed feature.

Springfield XD-S 3.3 IWB Hybrid Holster
Our rating:4.4 out of 5 stars (4.4 / 5)

Pros
  • Adjustable parts
  • Combination material construction
  • Comfortable
Cons
  • No click

2 Concealment Express IWB Kydex Holster

If you’re looking for solid construction and all the adjustable features you’d like, this holster is a great bet. First of all, we love kydex. There are stronger materials out there, but kydex is a great balance between durability and comfort, being slightly tougher than leather in flexibility but much more durable. Over time, kydex also flexes to the position you wear it in, so they do get more comfortable over time, just like leather.

The first thing you’ll probably notice with this holster, though, is that the comfort doesn’t come from the material but from the weight. Clocking in at only two and a half ounces, this is a shockingly lightweight holster. Part of that comes from the very low profile, which we also love. But a more circular shape on the back plate makes this work very well, as pressure from the gun is better distributed. We find this to be an excellent balance between comfort and concealment.

You can also adjust your retention pressure and your carry angle from zero to 15 degrees. A phillips screwdriver is required, which while it does not allow for on-the-fly adjustments, means you can still adjust it just about anywhere. We like that this requires only a few screws, and yet everything still feels very solid and secure.

One of the features we’re most grateful for, however, is a loud click. We like this in any holster. When it comes to holsters with such a low profile, we appreciate this feature all the more to provide peace of mind that our carry isn’t just concealed, but secure despite a low profile and near invisibility.

Concealment Express IWB Kydex Holster
Our rating:4.7 out of 5 stars (4.7 / 5)

Pros
  • Durable design
  • Very low profile
  • Low profile doesn’t sacrifice comfort
  • Loud click
  • Adjustable parts
Cons
  • Not everyone likes such a low profile

3 Relentless Tactical The Defender Leather IWB Holster for S&W M&P Shield

This holster is designed to be compatible with a lot of similar-sized handguns. In fact, the manufacturer says it fits too many to list. You can count this as a positive if you have a wide collection and like to carry more than just one regular handgun. For the most part, we tend to find that holsters custom-made for a model are best, as they offer the greatest security. So, if you do not have multiple handguns, that is something to consider.

This holster is available in multiple colors, all very attractive leather shades. Leather is not as durable as kydex and other synthetics, but it is an upgrade from nylon and other less-durable synthetics. Nonetheless, we find the construction to be simple and durable.

Considering that this holster is not specifically made for any one handgun, we would prefer additional features to ensure a secure hold, but there is only the faintest of audible clicks. You can certainly hear it when you are in a no-noise environment, but if you are holstering on the go in an environment with any ambient noise, you are likely to miss it.

There are also no adjustable parts. Cant and retention are set. This does make it simple, and it works well as it is, but we generally prefer features so that you can customize your experience for your own preferences.

Overall, this is a good choice for anyone looking for a simple, budget upgrade without a lot of extras. But if you like having options and added security, it might be passable in favor of others on this list.

  • Multiple colors
  • Leather is better than nylon
  • May appeal to minimalists

4 CrossBreed Holsters RH SuperTuck Concealed Carry Holster

We’ve reviewed a lot of CrossBreed holsters for a variety of guns and purposes, and they’re reliably quality. That’s no different here, with CrossBreed offering a custom fit for your handgun that finds a great balance between durability, comfort, and features.

First, we like that CrossBreed has combined leather with a kydex pocket. This provides a combination of comfort and durability. Generally, we prefer all kydex for optimum durability, but not everyone does. A kydex pocket allows the leather to provide a more comfortable fit elsewhere while protecting the part that needs durability the most.

The fit is slightly on the bulkier side, but with a more cutaway design, we find this to not impact the profile too much. It makes it all the more comfortable, absorbing the pressure points of the gun very well.

CrossBreed always provides us with great features, and this is no exception. With adjustable cant and retention, you’ll get just the fit for you. Some of their models in the past have require a hex allen key, and we are very happy that a simple Phillips screwdriver is all that’s necessary here. It’s a welcome improvement versus having to hunt down a tool that too many of us just don’t have conveniently on hand.

Lastly, CrossBreed almost always offers a click, and it’s here, too. It is a bit quieter than in some of their holsters, but it is still audible even in environments with ambient noise.

Overall, as always, CrossBreed has brought a balance of function and form to their holsters to give you a reliable product.

CrossBreed Holsters RH SuperTuck Concealed Carry Holster
Our rating:4.9 out of 5 stars (4.9 / 5)

Pros
  • Durable combination of leather and kydex
  • Adjustable parts
  • Clicks, although it’s a little quiet
  • Comfortable
Cons
  • Could be all-kydex
  • Some might prefer a smaller profile

5 Vedder Holsters LightTuck IWB Kydex Gun Holster

This holster is made specifically for this gun, and it really shows. Fit is tight and feels very secure, all the more so with the strong kydex construction.

And we appreciate that quite a lot, because it has a rather unique shape and feel. Its super-low profile, in the words of Vedder Holsters, makes it “virtually disappear.” The more vertically-oriented design is pulled off very well with the thick kydex construction, which manages to absorb the pressure points while minimizing the backplate vertically. As long as you can get used to the feel of kydex rather than leather or suede, we find this to be one of the most comfortable fits for such a low profile on the market.

Of course, comfort isn’t worth sacrificing security and features, and we’re happy that Vedder Holsters has included adjustable cant, retention, and height. We find it to operate exceptionally out of the box, but should you desire to make adjustments, you can do so with two very wide and sturdy flat screws. These phillips head screws are quick and easy to change, and truly clamp down due to their size.

We also love that because this holster is specifically designed for this model, it is equipped with custom channels to fit standard sights and indicators, while a sweat shield keeps the slide clean and sweat-free.

Lastly, you get a nice, audible click, although this holster always felt very secure regardless. This feature rounds out an excellent contribution to the market that we find to be truly worthy of consideration. We look forward to seeing more holsters from Vedder Holsters in the future.

Vedder Holsters LightTuck IWB Kydex Gun Holster
Our rating:4.6 out of 5 stars (4.6 / 5)

Pros
  • Very low profile
  • Durable kydex
  • Excellent fit
  • Adjustable parts
  • Easy adjustment with two large screws
  • Audible click
Cons
  • Not everyone will find the kydex construction to be comfortable

6 Galco Stown-N-Go IWB Holster for Springfield XD-S

Those who would appreciate this holster probably can tell from first glance. It doesn’t offer any real notable features, but it has some simple charm and a darned small footprint at that.

Made of leather, it has a bright appearance and hand-made craftsmanship. It is supremely comfortable and soft, while still as durable as you expect leather to be. Of course, it can’t compare to kydex, but that’s not the point of this model. Curiously, we expect these sort of hand-crafted, simple leather budget holsters to offer a range of color and style options, but that’s not available here. It is, however, available in both left and right hand orientations.

It has an extremely small profile, which we can really appreciate. It is also custom-made for this model of handgun, which for such a simple holster helps to keep it a lot more secure than a generic budget leather holster without adjustable features.

Of course, if you’re looking for adjustable parts, an audible click, and so on, this is not the holster for you. This is a very simple, budget holster, designed to look nice, be reasonably durable, and just get the job done. Minimalists would appreciate this holster, but we also think it might make a great choice as a backup holster. It would also be a nice gift for someone who is interested in concealed carry but does not yet have a holster. It’s a nice, thoughtful way to get someone used to concealed carry, at which point they can graduate on if they would like more features.

Galco Stown-N-Go IWB Holster for Springfield XD-S
Our rating:4.2 out of 5 stars (4.2 / 5)

Pros
  • Great durability in a budget product
  • Handcrafted leather
  • Very low profile
  • Very comfortable
  • Great for a backup or friendly gift
Cons
  • No adjustable parts
  • No click
  • Not likely to satisfy advanced users

7 Talon Concealed Carry IWB Leather Holsters

In case you weren’t aware, Talon is operated by law enforcement professionals in the USA. That means their holsters are not only high quality, but also designed by professionals who love concealed carry and know a few things: that concealed carry can get uncomfortable with a bad holster, and that function is paramount alongside performance. To that end, they formed Talon to address the needs they experience both on and off the job.

They start by crafting each holster to specifically fit the model of handgun. Not only does that provide a great, tight fit, but it is necessary because the profile they provide is incredibly low. In fact, it is absolutely the lowest profile on our list. The holster fits comfortable inside the pants with just the grip and top of the holster exposed, but trust us, it really feels as though you’re somehow just magically wearing the gun itself.

Because they have committed to cutting out all unnecessary space to make the smallest profile and the most comfortable fit possible with such a low profile, that means there aren’t any features. There is no adjustable cant, no adjustable retention, no click, nothing to mess around with.

Mind you, it is designed to “just work,” and we find that Talon holsters always provide a natural, quick draw that depends heavily on your placement. If you’re the type of person that expects your placement to be static and your holster adjust to you, maybe this isn’t the right holster. But it does an exceptional job of being the holster it set out to be—one made by professionals to work without any fuss.

If you can get over the lack of features, this is one of the quickest, most comfortable, lowest profile holsters on the market.

Talon Concealed Carry IWB Leather Holsters
Our rating:4.3 out of 5 stars (4.3 / 5)

Pros
  • Unparalleled low profile
  • Comfortable
  • Durable leather construction
Cons
  • No adjustable features
  • Not everyone will want such a low profile

8 Blackhawk! SERPA CQC Concealment Holster with Matte Finish

Blackhawk! makes pretty unique holster that are distinguishable right away. Let’s get one thing clear right away: their holsters are not for minimalists, so if you’re looking for a simple, lightweight holster that sits on your belt and doesn’t do anything, look elsewhere. Feature hounds, on the other hand, rejoice.

It comes with all the accessories you would need to use it as a paddle mount or belt mount system. Likewise, they’ve included a very intuitive system for adjusting cant, retention, and height. Virtually every adjustment you would need to make on this holster comes with guides and thoughtful construction to make your task easier. To be sure, it also includes a thorough instruction manual that blows everyone else’s out of the water, which makes its depth of features a lot more approachable for novices.

As with all their holsters, you get a great, audible click upon holstering, and you press a button to release tension. This gives you great security all-around. We recommend spending some time getting used to this feature so that it’s second nature, but it doesn’t take long. Trust us, you’ll love the fact that someone can’t simply grab your gun out of your holster.

The holster’s features are designed rounded to be more comfortable, but in the end this is a bulkier holster that does its best to stay compact and comfortable. There’s only so much that’s possible, however. You will be sacrificing a bit of comfort and weight in exchange for a lot of great features, so it’s really up to you whether it’s worth it.

If you’re all about customization and tweaking things to your liking—and even picking out one of six colors—and don’t tend to be bothered by bulk, this is one of the best holsters on the market that caters to individual needs.

Blackhawk! SERPA CQC Concealment Holster with Matte Finish
Our rating:4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)

Pros
  • Many adjustable options
  • Not overwhelming to novices
  • Excellent security
  • Audible click
  • Push-button tension release
  • Color options
Cons
  • Bulkier
  • Heavier
  • Somewhat less comfortable

Choosing The Best IWB Holster for XDS for You

Choosing The Best IWB Holster for XDS for You

Your preferences matter the most

We’ve reviewed a pretty diverse range of holsters, ranging from the most minimal holsters that are designed to be forgotten about, to holsters that let you tweak their myriad options to your heart’s content. One thing is for certain: each is vying to be the holster that matches your needs. There’s certainly one for everyone.

Do you need an audible click?

There’s nothing that beats the audible click of a holster to assure you that your handgun is safe and secure. The importance varies, as some holsters feel naturally more secure than others. But we love an audible click, and we’re sure you do, too. Not all the best holsters have audible clicks, and not all the holsters with audible clicks are among the best. It probably shouldn’t be the only consideration, but it’s an important one.

Consider your past experiences with comfort

Everyone defines comfort differently. Have you worn a holster in the past and found it constantly digging into you? Or have you worn a generic holster in the past and forgot you had it on?

Do certain materials bother you more than others? What about something large, versus something small? Sometimes, the smaller holsters can actually be less comfortable, because they don’t have the benefit of a large backplate to absorb the pressure of the edges and points of your gun.

Since comfort is subjective, it’s very hard to determine what’s best for you. But we’ve tried to lay out which guns are generally more comfortable regardless of other factors. Some just won’t care about comfort much at all, which means you’ve got your work cut out for you.

How important is durability?

Many of the holsters on our list are made of leather. Leather is a durable material, and if you’re currently using a nylon holster, you’ll appreciate the upgrade in durability and strength. Leather is also a pliable material that while tough does bend to your shape over time and become more comfortable.

Synthetic materials get a bad rap compared to the appeal of genuine leather. But you can also trust that synthetic materials are more durable, and also usually break in over time without wearing down. Synthetic materials have the added benefit of being easily washable, which is great for the upkeep of your holster. If you’re looking to keep a holster for many years, synthetics are generally the route to go.

Lastly, consider your climate, and whether leather may dry out. This can happen in extremely cold and extremely dry climates alike—desert areas are particularly prone to drying out leather. While this is true indoors or outdoors, if you spend a lot of time outside in heat and other elements, the lifespan of leather will be greatly diminished.

How important is appearance?

Of course, these holsters are all designed to be concealed. That’s the point. But some brands do offer a degree of personalization in the form of colors and styles. Additionally, many synthetic holsters and some leather holsters are black, which is a good safe color for blending in with any attire, becoming another form of camouflage which may help bolster concealment.

Don’t forget that warranty

Last but not least, not all the brands we’ve reviewed offer a warranty. You might not want a warranty for a holster so much as you would for other accessories, but most of the holsters on our list that have a lot of greater features tend to cost a little more, making them more of an investment that should last. Generally, the cheaper and leather-based holsters are the ones that do not have warranties, but that’s not always the case.

Before you shell out your hard-earned money, consider how well you take care of your products, and how much it bothers you when your possessions break down. Do you typically bother with warranties, or do you just buy a replacement without thinking about it? Either way, it’s an important factor.

Conclusion

We were very happy with all of the holsters we’ve reviewed and consider them to be some of the best and most innovative we’ve looked at.

Overall, we think that you can’t go wrong with the Vedder Holsters LightTuck IWB Kydex Gun Holster. Featuring all the aspects we love—adjustable parts, audible click, low profile, kydex construction, and a comfortable fit—we think this holster should not only satisfy the broadest range of people, but perform very well. It also is very quick and easy to adjust with just two screws, yet has a very solid durability that we expect to last a very long time.

Overall, it is a great marriage of flexibility, strength, comfort, and reliability.
